The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay has a long tradition of community and world involvement. We are part of Rotary International, the largest and oldest non-political and non-religious humanitarian organization in the world. There are more than 1,200,000 Rotarians in the world, in over 170 countries with more than 33.000 Clubs. Rotarians are ambassadors for peace. With Water-, Health/Hunger- and Literacy Projects Rotarians work to eliminate disease, such as polio, and to improve living conditions in emerging nations. Even Bill Gates donated Millions to Rotary! Here is the link to the Rotary Guiding Principles: http://www.rotary.org/en/AboutUs/RotaryInternational/GuidingPrinciples/Pages/ridefault.aspx At Rotary Half Moon Bay we are around 45/50 members, mostly professionals and small business owners. We meet weekly at lunch for fellowship and to learn more about the Rotary world. Our guest speakers come from many different walks of life; college professors, entertainers, students, government workers, professionals and many more. In addition, we have regular social functions for getting together with Rotarians and their families and to have fun. We are about Community Service. We work on projects to benefit the community, such as the RotaCare Free Clinic, beautification projects, and a variety of other projects in conjunction with other non-profits in the community. We are about World Service. We have a sister club in Ecuador, with which we have done a number of clean water projects for villages that have no access to clean water and sanitary facilities. We are also involved with projects in Kenya, Russia and Mexico. Our affiliation with Rotary International helps us fund these projects and execute them, working in conjunction with local clubs in each country. We sponsor Group Study Exchange groups (“GSE”) from other countries so they can visit us and learn about how we do business in our communities and at the same time send our team to those countries. In the Rotary year 2009/10 we havea GSE exchange with Italy! We are about Youth Service. We have an annual essay contest for High School students. We support youth athletic programs at the Main Street and Moonridge housing complexes. We sponsor exchange students from other countries and send exchange students abroad. We support Interact Clubs at the High School and Middle School. Come be our guest for lunch and meet our members We offer the opportunity to give back to the community and the world, to meet new friends and have fun at the same time! (and .. by the way … we are not a ‘good old boys’ club). Join us at 12:15 Thursdays at the Community United Methodist Church, 777 Miramontes St, Half Moon Bay. (click through Google-map)
