Charles

President's Message 2007/08

Our Half Moon Bay Rotary Club is comprised of fifty hardworking men and women who live or work on the Coastside.  We joined Rotary because we felt a call to action: to serve in our local community and beyond, joining the 1.2 million Rotarians around the world who meet weekly under a Rotary banner that promotes “service above self.”
Our club motto this year is “One Club, One Purpose; All Participate.”  Our one purpose is service.  Among the service projects that we are actively and financially involved in are:

  • Clean water projects in Ecuador.  We have been working for several years with Rotary Clubs in Ecuador to bring clean water to many of the fifty percent of the population without clean water.  We are planning our fourth visit to the country this year to visit some of these projects.
  • RotaCare.  RotaCare is a free medical clinic that provides service on a weekly basis to Coastsiders in need.  It was begun by our Rotary Club and we continue to support it financially and with volunteers.
  • Other Community Projects include several Rotary activities and programs that assist Coastside youth develop leadership abilities and foster habits of service to the community.  We also provide financial and active support to other community organizations to assist the elderly and those in need.  And from time to time you may see us cleaning up a beach, painting walls at a clinic, handing out turkeys at Thanksgiving and presents for children during the holidays.

Along the way, we also manage to have a pretty good time:  friendships are created and strengthened, some business is conducted and we learn more about the world we live in.  And we have the satisfaction of lending a hand.
Fifty people can do a lot.  Fifty-one can do more.  We are actively recruiting new members and I would be happy to answer questions that readers of this column have about Rotary.
